Following the success of the last edition with almost 1,000 pupils from all over Germany and a lot of positive feedback from teachers, Destatis would like to participate again in the next round of the European Statistics Competition 2024/2025. We want to further strengthen the objective of getting young people interested in statistics, as we have noticed a great enthusiasm among students for working with statistical data. To achieve this goal, we are focusing even more on the integration of social media than in last year's competition. Data literacy is also becoming increasingly important, especially in times of disinformation campaigns and the growing influence of anti-democratic forces. The aim of the ESC 2024/2025 in Germany is to make this skill accessible to young people through a competition. With an expanded range of products for schools, we also want to promote the integration of official data in the classroom. Another aim is to encourage even more work in interdisciplinary teams in order to realise the deeply European idea of achieving common goals.
