Statistics Belgium has the following objectives in mind when implementing the European Statistics Competition, in which European as well as national and regional priorities play a role: - Emphasising the importance of statistical literacy. - Statistical literacy as a point of interest in public statistics. - Statistical literacy as a point of interest within secondary education, with attention to gender balance, age, balance in participating study subjects. - Creating a bridge between the world of (European, national, regional) official statistics and the world of education. - Sustaining and adding concrete connections between Belgian statistical institutions and educational institutions. - Presenting Eurostat, Statistics Belgium, Iweps, IBSA-BISA and Statistiek Vlaanderen via a competition/game element. - Increasing the visibility of the different European, national and regional statistical partners. - Increasing the value of official statistics and making them better known. - Use of official statistics in the national and international competition. - Use of statistics beyond the ESC.
