One of STATEC’s longest standing objectives is to target a younger public. Different initiatives happened in the past: • Presentations of STATEC’s mission and goals to schools to raise interest, awareness and statistical literacy • Participation in the “DayCARE” program, who aims to to introduce them to the world of statistics and show them various examples of career paths in this area • Collaboration with various national organizations, or participated in various activities that would bring is closer to schools, teachers and, of course, students • Collaboration with the Science Center, is a science museum offering expositions and interactive shows addressing the greater public and in particular young people and students, to organize the European Statistics Day • Targeted social media communication: elaboration of a social media strategy and increase in the use of infographics and videos However, these actions were not coordinated, did not cover the whole territory of Luxembourg and happened punctually. In the school year 2021-2022, STATEC participated for the first time in the European Statistics Competition, which represented a real opportunity to finally address this issue and actively communicate with young people in Luxembourg. It has also helped to develop and strengthen STATEC’s network with secondary schools and teachers. STATEC’s main objective for this participation is to motivate new teams to participate, as many of the previous teams are leaving the secondary school system to go to university.
