The Statistical Office of the Republic of Slovenia (SURS) is the main producer and coordinator of official statistics in Slovenia. Its data are daily published in the SiStat Database where a billion data points are already available at one place. Each data release is accompanied by a short commentary with basic tables and charts designed to be as clear as possible, ensuring that users can easily understand and use data correctly. SURS’s annual user satisfaction survey shows a growing number of website visits, which indicates increasing awareness of users to search for reliable and accurate data. However, a significant part of society remains unaware of official statistical data and its value, particularly those without a professional need for or interest in statistics such as the general public and pupils from basic and upper secondary schools. Bridging this gap is essential as we are constantly surrounded by statistical information of all kinds. Strengthening the statistical literacy is one of the main objectives in our Dissemination and Communication Strategy, with a strong focus on educating younger generations. The proposed project “European Statistics Competition 2025/2026 - Participation” will be another important step towards achieving this goal. The objectives of the project and proposed activities are planned to be achieved through two work packages: - WP 1 Marketing of the national and European stage - WP 2 Management of the national and European stage.
