Description
Description | Nowadays, we have easy access to vast amounts of information from various sources, making us more susceptible to misinformation and fake news. The European Statistics Competition (ESC), as a creative and original form of education for young people, helps enhance the statistical literacy of high school students. For the fourth time, the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic will participate in organizing the national round of the European Statistics Competition in the 2025/2026 school year. The main objective of the competition is to foster students' curiosity and interest in statistics, teach them how to read and correctly interpret statistical data, and help them distinguish between official and unofficial data sources. By participating in the competition, students will improve their statistical literacy and develop critical thinking skills, enabling them to identify misinformation and hoaxes, as well as verify and evaluate facts. The project also aims to highlight the importance of statistics in society. Students can register for the competition in teams of one to three students and one teacher. The Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic will oversee the relevant phases of the national round, ensuring compliance with the national competition timetable and rules while considering national circumstances and the constraints set by the ESC coordinator. Additionally, the Statistical Office of the SR will develop a detailed communication plan and implement a promotional strategy to effectively reach various target audiences. Following the success of the third edition of the competition in Slovakia during the 2024/2025 school year, which demonstrated strong student interest in the project, the Statistical Office of the Slovak Republic will continue its cooperation in the 2025/2026 school year with the Ministry of Education, Research, Development, and Youth of the Slovak Republic and the National Bank of Slovakia. |
