Description
Description | """European Union and Norms in Global Governance: Advancing Gender Equality and Sustainable Development Goals"" (ENGAGE-SDG) is a Jean Monnet Module designed to critically examine the European Union’s (EU) role as a normative actor in global governance. The module explores pivotal questions, such as how the EU operates as a norm entrepreneur, norm setter, and norm shaper in shaping global norms and how its normative power advances gender equality and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Over three years, the module will deliver specialized graduate (MA) and doctoral (PhD) courses at Marmara University, focusing on the EU’s institutional frameworks, its engagement with formal organizations such as the United Nations and informal networks like BRICS and MIKTA, and its capacity to address complex global challenges such as climate change, inequality, and crises of multilateralism. The curriculum integrates innovative teaching methods, including simulations of EU institutions, participatory learning, and in-depth case studies, fostering critical thinking and practical skills among students. Expert-led seminars and workshops will complement the teaching, providing opportunities for academics, students, policymakers, and NGOs to engage in interdisciplinary dialogue and explore the EU’s contributions to global governance. Dissemination efforts, including public events, will ensure that the module’s findings reach a broad audience, enhancing understanding of the EU’s role in advancing global norms. By interrogating the EU’s position as a normative power and fostering collaboration among diverse stakeholders, the ENGAGE-SDG module aims to inspire innovative approaches to addressing the urgent challenges of our time and to contribute to building a more inclusive and sustainable future" |
