The rationale of the Jean Monnet Chair in EU Governance (EuGov) is to improve the quality of teaching, research and dissemination activities on issues related to European Union governance and policy priorities at Pompeu Fabra University (Barcelona, Spain). It promotes awareness, responsiveness and understanding of current EU-level decisions and priorities while encouraging participation in public debates on EU affairs from a variety of audiences (students, citizens, civil society and policy-makers) and stimulating EU studies research at the academic level. The project is implemented through a combination of three typologies of activities: teaching, research and dissemination. At teaching level, it combines a curriculum upgrade of existing EU-studies courses (both in content and teaching methodologies) with the expansion of an Online Learning Platform and the development of informal learning activities from the creation of a new university society dedicated to EU affairs. In terms of research, EuGov continues to support the research lines of its members on EU policy-making while organizing research conferences for EU-dedicated scholars and sponsoring contributions from young researchers at MA and PhD levels. At dissemination level, the project promotes an ambitious double package of extra-curricular activities both in terms of academic debate (i.e. annual lectures about EU governance topics, seminars on contemporary EU affairs, annual workshops on inclusion and diversity issues), and through training activities oriented towards civil society actors (i.e. secondary school educators, EU-related civil society stakeholders and interested citizens). In such a way, the project ensures a large outreach in its regional and national environment while also setting a long-term ambition to be an academic centre of reference capable of consolidating stable network collaborations at national and European levels.
