Description
Description | "European Union Studies - Jean Monnet Teacher Training The European Union has been very successful as a peace project over the last 70 years. However, the weaknesses of the project are shown by the example of the common refugee and health policy. Politicians in the member states like to use the EU as a scapegoat for their own poor decisions. As schools are the only institutions that reach all European citizens, European education at school is crucial to prepare the future generation for active participation in the EU and guaranteeing a peaceful Europe. The main activity of the project is the annual implementation of the Higher Level Course (HLG) ""European Union Studies - Jean Monnet Teacher Training"" at the University College of Teacher Education Vienna. The HLG is held four times during the project period and consists of three modules each. Each course will involve 30 teachers from all disciplines at secondary level 1 and 2 (90 teachers in total), who will pass on their knowledge and experience in the school environment to at least 50 pupils each (4500 pupils in total). The school context is seen as the preferred level of knowledge acquisition. It also distinguishes three Europe-related learning dimensions. Namely, the cognitive level, the competence level and the affective level. All three levels are addressed in the course ""European Union Studies - Jean Monnet Teacher Training"" with the following three modules: - Module 1: EU-BASIC KNOWLEDGE IN BUILDING STONES and possible applications in the classroom. - Module 2: EUROPEAN COMPETENCIES: European History, Values and Identity - Module 3: EXPERIENCING BRUSSELS UP CLOSE - In the middle of it instead of just being there In the applicant institution ""University College of Teacher Education Vienna"" (PH Wien), this HLG is the starting point for the introduction of an in-depth focus on ""Didactics of European Politics"", which is unique in the Austrian research environment." |
