European Week of Sport in Germany

"The European Week of Sport is a well-established project in the activities of DTB (Deutscher Turner-Bund). 2021 is the sixth time that DTB coordinates the Week in Germany. With every year, the Week gets better known and many organisations in the sports sector in Germany join the network and promote the EWoS. The general concept of health enhancing physical activity as an objective and segment of the “Sport for All”-concept has a long tradition in the DTB. Health enhancing physical activity is meanwhile the biggest part of DTB offers. About 80% of the members are engaged in this field. The #BeActive message is implemented in Germany through more than 600 events taking place nation-wide. The main event in Germany will be a big “#BeActive Night” in Frankfurt on the 25th of September. It will be combined with activities of the “#BeActive Frankfurt” event which has constantly grown with each year. More than 20 additional #BeActive Nights with different sport activities will take place at the same time on the 25th of September. All EWoS events in Germany aim at moving people from all groups no matter what age, abilities or background. With the EWoS a nationwide network of sports promotors like sports federations, the German city federation, regional governments, city councils and companies has been established. All parties help with promoting the #BeActive message in Germany and giving the week more visibility. All in all, the EWoS gains more impact with every year. The activities help with promoting physical activities and sport in Germany and strengthen the clubs providing possibilities to be active. Regional governments have already started to implement programmes which include the EWoS and an action plan to get people more active. Moreover, many new partners have heard of the week and actively ask how they can become a part of #BeActive. The week has been growing and is a very important tool to promote the benefits of physical activities. "
