Europe's Largest Floating Housing Project in Rotterdam

MAST, a Danish maritime design firm, in partnership with local contractor BIK bouw, plans to transform a disused dock in Spoorweghaven, Rotterdam, into Europe's largest floating housing development. The project will feature over 100 prefabricated apartments, green public spaces, commercial zones, boat moorings, and a harbor for leisure activities. It aims to address the housing crisis in the Netherlands by utilizing water space for urban living, preserving Rotterdam's maritime character, and incorporating environmental benefits such as floating reedbeds for water filtration and habitat creation. The modular design allows flexibility and adaptability over time, emphasizing sustainability through prefabricated cross-laminated timber construction.
