EuroQCI deployment in Spain

EuroQCI-SPAIN will deploy quantum key distribution (QKD) and quantum crypto technologies in Spain. The first objective is the development of quantum communication (QC) nodes in Madrid (MAD) and Barcelona (BCN). Starting from specific end-user requirements, especially involving public authorities, the related QC links will be designed and deployed to implement the use cases. Subsequently, nodes in other cities and long-range communication, including the connection of MAD and BCN nodes, with neighbouring Member States (Portugal and France) and interconnection of terrestrial fibre network with satellites, will be studied. The project will also demonstrate free-space QC links and distribution of quantum entanglement between quantum repeater nodes, the latter being instrumental for the future quantum internet. The Euro-QCI consortium includes major telecommunication, infrastructures and cybersecurity companies, TID (Telefonica), CELLNEX, INDRA and TECNOBIT (Oesia Group), that will work closely with renowned public Institutions and Universities, ICFO, UPM and CSIC. The proposed project will enhance the QC technological, industrial and service ecosystems, contributing in this way to the preparation of the subsequent massive deployment of EuroQCI.
