Description | The Everglades Agricultural Area Reservoir project is a joint federal and state initiative aimed at building a large reservoir and stormwater treatment area to store and clean excess water from Lake Okeechobee, reduce harmful discharges to coastal estuaries, and send clean water south to the Everglades and Florida Bay. The project includes a 6,500-acre stormwater treatment area to be built by Florida and a 10,500-acre reservoir to be built by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The project aims to accelerate completion from 2034 to 2029 and is part of the Comprehensive Everglades Restoration Plan. |
