Description
Description | "Our project Everyday Heroes aims to enrich the Hungarian literary landscape by bringing high-quality books from Central and Eastern Europe to readers of all ages. Through the translation, publication, distribution, and promotion of eight works from the Czech Republic, Slovakia, Poland, and Ukraine, we seek to diversify the Hungarian book market and foster cultural exchange. Our thematic motto, drawn from Kurt Vonnegut, is: ""We have to continually be jumping off cliffs and developing our wings on the way down."" The project explores the struggles of everyday life, highlighting how ordinary people overcome challenges—both internal and external—in ways that may seem small from the outside but are heroic from within. Each of our selected books tells the story of an ""everyday hero"" who finds the strength to persist and grow, proving that courage is not about grand gestures but about taking the next step, and the next, even when it feels impossible. The project's activities are designed to engage diverse audiences through innovative book launches, illustration exhibitions, author and translator Q&As, creative workshops for children and adults, alternative literature classes for schoolchildren, drama pedagogy sessions for Ukrainian refugee children, and bibliotherapy sessions for adults. Our distribution strategy prioritizes independent bookstores, art venues, libraries, literary and cultural festivals, as well as design and cultural markets in Hungary, Serbia, Slovakia, and Romania. A comprehensive online and offline communications campaign supports the project, using social media, video content, podcasts, book reviews, influencer collaborations, media appearances, and newsletters to reach and engage a broad audience. The project benefits children, young adults, parents, translators, illustrators, librarians, and educators—bringing them stories that inspire, connect, and celebrate the quiet yet powerful heroism of everyday life.
