Description | Evesham Township in southern New Jersey needed some roads repaved in 2025 and put the job out for bid. The lowest bid was from Earle Asphalt Co. at $1,463,513. However, the township mandated that all public works contracts include a project labor agreement requiring union hiring, which Earle Asphalt could not agree to. The township rejected all bids and restarted the bidding process, resulting in higher bids with the lowest at $1,617,411, over $153,000 more than Earle's original bid. This has increased costs for taxpayers for the same road repaving work. |
