Description
Description | Ewaso Ngiro South Development Authority (ENSDA) operates among the predominantly pastoral and agro-pastoral communities of Narok and Kajiado counties, particularly investing in the development of the livestock sector, thereby contributing to inequalities, building community’s resilience to disaster, climate change impacts and building capacities of local structures to maximize benefits of local resources. To contribute to the above is Tannery and Leather Factory in Narok County to process raw hides and skins (which are rarely utilized livestock by-products) for local and export markets. The factory’s main components are the Tannery and Leather Processing. The project is located at Ewaso Ngiro in Narok County covering a total area of 53,406 km2 comprising Narok and the neighboring counties of Bomet, Kisii, Kericho, and Kajiado. The factory will help the Authority generate revenue by processing about 4,000 tonnes of hides and skins annually which will create over 400 direct jobs and over 5,000 indirect jobs. Most of the established tanneries are of small capacity and process hides and skins to wet blue. Therefore, it is imperative to establish a leather factory that can complete the process to leather, which will result in products of higher value. The project is seeking a strategic investor in the leather value chain to expand their outputs in shoes; provide access to new markets and enhanced technology. |
