Description
Description | "The European Week of Sport will be organised by the East Belgian Sports Confederation, LOS (‘Leitverband des Ostbelgischen Sports’). Our goal is to represent this event more in the media, to bring it closer to the residents and above all, to promote sport and an active lifestyle. Many sports organisations in East Belgium have already collaborated with us and promote the main objective of the EWoS: get people to #BeActive and motivate them to move more regardless of their abilities, age, or background. Even though East Belgium is a small community with about 78.000 inhabitants, sport has a long history with more than 230 sports clubs and 20.000 members. According to a study published in 2016 on “The development of popular sports in the German-speaking Community”, every fourth person belongs to a club. Through the organisation of the EWoS, LOS would like to promote the general health of the population with activities. LOS wants to emphasise the importance of physical activity and sport and wants to promote healthy life styles at large, tying together sport, physical activity, healthy eating, environmental conditions and other aspects contributing to good health especially among children and youth. The following years, LOS will support again the whole sports program that will be free of charge for the population during the all EWoS. LOS will focus on four main events: #BeActiveAtSchool, where schools are encouraged to take part in sport throughout the week. This includes sport on the way to school, in lessons and during breaks. However, sports clubs and private sports providers will not be neglected during this week either. They will be offering taster sessions for everyone throughout the week, which will be promoted by LOS. LOS wants to promote more sport in the workplace by organizing a company run during the week. Finally, there will be a closing event at which current topics in sport, such as the prevention of violence or inclusion in sport, will be addressed." |
