Description | Objectives • extending and strenghtening the capability of the Austrian Police in investigating hate crime and hate speech cases by systematic recording • improving the data collection and evaluation • adequately interacting with victims and ensure respect of their rights by targeted training activities Activities • building a more solid, scientifically monitored system for effective recording and data collection on hate crime of the Police at national level according to the key guiding principles on improving the recording of hate crime by law enforcement authorities of the EU High Level Group • flagging potential hate crimes by dedicated check boxes when they are reported locally • specific nationwide training activities including extensive lists of bias indicators, following the key guiding principles on hate crime training for law enforcement authorities of the EU High Level Group • mutual learning activities and exchange of best practices of hate crime data recording and training between public authorities of Austria and selected Member States Beneficiaries • main beneficiaries are (potential) victims of hate crime and hate speech in Austria • whole Austrian Police force, 28.500 police officers • local communities and decision makers in public authorities, notably in the Ministry of the Interior Deliverables • systematic improvements in data collection and data evaluation • extended lists of bias indicators for the Police • pilot report on hate crime including information folders • train-the-trainer program and e-learning tool for the Austrian Police Expected results • Improved methodologies on recording and analyzing data on hate crimes in Austria, and enhanced comparability of data and statistics • Improved knowledge and awareness of the Police on the impact of hate crime and hate speech • Increased capacity of the Police to effectively investigate hate crimes • Improved support to hate crime victims and increasing number of reported incidents |
