Description
Description | Young people in rural areas across Europe often face structural barriers that limit their ability to participate in democratic and social life. Unlike their urban counterparts, they lack access to education, infrastructure, and direct connections to policymaking institutions. This isolation fuels low political trust, disengagement, and migration to cities, further weakening rural representation in decision-making. RURAL 2.0 builds on the success of RURAL (Rural Unity for Rural Active Leaders), expanding its scope and reach. The project empowers rural youth by providing platforms for engagement, digital tools for advocacy, and leadership training to strengthen their role in shaping policies. The project pursues three key objectives: 1. Rural Youth Parliaments, offering young people a space to debate, develop policy proposals, and interact with decision-makers. 2. The Rural Voices Digital Campaign, using social media and storytelling to amplify rural perspectives. 3. The Rural Leadership Academy, training youth in policymaking, advocacy, and leadership. Unlike previous initiatives, RURAL 2.0 is not just about participation but about real influence. The project ensures that youth-led discussions lead to concrete proposals that reach local, national, and EU institutions. By fostering direct collaboration with policymakers, it ensures that rural youth perspectives are heard and acted upon. Through digital engagement, even young people in remote areas can contribute to policy discussions, ensuring broader inclusion. Meanwhile, leadership training equips them with the tools to drive long-term change. Designed for sustainability, RURAL 2.0 establishes lasting mechanisms like the Rural Youth Parliament, while digital resources and partnerships ensure continued rural youth participation beyond the project’s duration. Ultimately, RURAL 2.0 is about transforming the role of rural youth—not just as participants, but as leaders shaping Europe’s future. |
