Description | The purpose of the project is to double the existing design capacity of the port of Walvis Bay to 500,000 Twenty-foot Equivalent Units annual handling capacity by expanding the quay wall size, dredging the approach channel and upgrading the handling equipment. This upgrade would allow Namibia to further develop as a regional transport hub. The TA Grant supported the Namibian Ports Authority in the financing of consultancy services for conducting the economic market study for this strategic expansion of the container terminal. The consultancy contract was awarded to Nathan Associates Inc. in March 2011. |
