Description
Description | The U.S. administration is seeking to expand the Screening Partnership Program (SPP), which currently allows 20 airports to use private screeners for luggage and passenger screening under federal oversight. The expansion aims to privatize more TSA airport screeners, improve performance, encourage efficiency and innovation, and insulate airport security from government shutdown impacts. The proposed budget requests $52 million to begin this privatization effort, including cutting over 4,500 federal screening positions and reducing personnel costs by roughly $529 million, resulting in a net savings of about $52 million. The program would require congressional approval and targets small airports serving scheduled or larger non-scheduled flights. |
