Description | ExxonMobil planned a blue hydrogen and ammonia project at the Baytown complex in Texas, with a production capacity of one billion cubic feet a day of hydrogen and one million tonnes a year of ammonia. The project was the largest in BloombergNEF's list of clean hydrogen developments expected to start by 2030. However, ExxonMobil has shelved the project, leading to an 8% cut in BNEF's 2030 clean hydrogen outlook. The project had an equity partner in Adnoc and an offtake deal with Marubeni for a quarter of the planned ammonia output. The project could still take a final investment decision by the end of next year to be operational this decade, but government funding cuts and lack of demand have hindered progress. |
