Description

Description

Ford Motor Co. is discontinuing the F-150 Lightning electric vehicle after less than four years of production and shifting focus to more profitable gasoline and hybrid versions of the F-150. Instead of producing a next-generation Lightning at the BlueOval City complex in Tennessee, Ford will produce an extended-range electric pickup in Michigan. The BlueOval City plant, originally set to open in 2028 as Ford's largest and most efficient manufacturing site, will now build affordable gas-powered trucks starting in 2029. Additionally, Ford is scrapping a planned next-generation electric van in Ohio, switching to gasoline and hybrid van production in 2029. Ford is also repurposing excess battery production towards energy storage systems.
