F and M Subway Lines Route Swap

planned

The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) will swap the F and M subway lines between Manhattan and Queens starting December 8, 2025. This change involves the F line shifting to the 53rd Street line and the M line moving to the 63rd Street line, separating express and local services to eliminate a bottleneck at Queens Plaza and reduce delays affecting up to 20 percent of rush-hour trains. The swap will improve service reliability, reduce delays, and enhance rider comfort for approximately 1.2 million daily users. Additionally, the 21st Street-Queensbridge station will be upgraded with improved lighting, signage, paint, glass surfaces, floor tiles, drainage, and new canopies over staircases.
