Facing the Water Security Challenge: Developing Water Security and Drought Management Plans for LAC Countries

The objective of the TC is to prepare a National Water Security Plan (NWSP) that can be agreed upon at different levels of the government and implemented based on an adequate legal and institutional framework and funds, stems as the initial step to be taken in this effort to achieve water security for LAC. The NWSP will include an adequate legal and institutional framework for its implementation, a thorough consultation within and among the national institutions with direct or indirect responsibilities regarding water resources management, the necessary written agreements, and the necessary resources and instruments for its implementation. A basin-level water security plan will be piloted in the selected country (to be determined) , including the development of a tailored drought management plan to improve resilience capacity in the project area.Seguridad Hídrica (SH) es la capacidad de salvaguardar el acceso sostenible a cantidades adecuadas de agua de calidad aceptable para el sostenimiento de la vida, el bienestar humano y el desarrollo socioeconómico; para garantizar la protección contra la contaminación y los desastres relacionados con el agua, y para la conservación de los ecosistemas en un clima de paz y estabilidad política.
