Description

Description

In Febraury 2001, Fafen Energia began construction of the first phase –a 56.4 MW cogeneration plant at the Camacari Petrochemical complex- of a project in the state of Bahia. In October 2002, Brazil’s energy market regulator ANEEL authorized an expansion of the plant to 133 MW; this second phase of the project was concluded in mid 2004. The generator had contracts to sell 100MW to EdP power distributor Bandeirante. In early 2005 it started supplying 22MW and 42 tonnes/hour of steam to the Fafen fertilizer plant in the state of Bahia. Fafen Energia was formed by Electricidade de Portugal (EdP - 80%) and Brazil’s state owned oil and gas company, Petrobras (20%). The project cost was estimated at US$120 million. No information on how it was financed was disclosed. In December 2004, Petrobras signed a purchase agreement to buy out EdP's 80% stake in the thermoelectric power plant, becoming the plant's sole owner. The purchase was said to be worth US$35.5 million (96 million real). None None
