The project's overall objective is to increase knowledge of the demand for sustainable regional aviation in a cross-border perspective. Knowledge on demand is vital for a well informed future decision-making process on how to proceed long term in creating a sustainable regional aviation service in the region. The objective of the demand study is to gain a better understanding of the demand for regional aviation and attitudes toward zero emission aviation alternatives. The study will analyse existing travel patterns of the region, as well as the demand and attitudes of residents, private sector companies and public sector organisations. Research tools will be data mapping, surveys, and interviews. The result will be compiled in a report that aims to give a broader understanding of the demand for sustainable aviation. The report will summarize both the existing demand and the potential demand. Based on this, an analysis will be made as for the potential of sustainable regional aviation in the region. The implications in terms of commercial viability and/or public benefits of new routes or networks will be outlined. Insights from FAIR 2 will serve as a basis for a future project aimed at facilitating the development of sustainable business models (including both commercial and non-commercial alternatives) for sustainable regional air routes/networks.
