Description

Description

The main objective of the fAIr Media project is to debunk misinformation, promote media literacy and enhance citizens' capacity and critical approach to media (including social media) through an active and participatory methodology involving AI, professionals, artists, and young citizens. This approach is in line with the priority of countering disinformation and enhancing societal resilience. The specific aim of the project is to encourage participation and debate among a diverse group of citizens. The main challenge is to address the issue of mis/disinformation and to work with experts to anticipate the impact of generative AI on the media landscape. These objectives will be achieved by involving more than 700 citizens in three rounds of events in 4 countries. The first round will involve professionals and help to feed the second round with young citizens. The aim is to provide participants with new skills to interact with the AI tools and fully understand how GenAI is revolutionising the media industry and reshaping the way we consume and engage with media content. This will undoubtedly empower an increasingly necessary critical approach for citizens. Conclusions from the previous two rounds of workshops will be collated to create an illustrated glossary of debunking tactics. This will be the final output of the fAIr media project. It will serve as an innovative manifesto, co-created by citizens and artists, to communicate their views and concerns to policymakers in an educational and visual way. It represents the project's contribution to a more transparent, safer, and trustworthy media landscape through citizen empowerment, summarising the main concepts highlighted during the previous events. Dissemination will take place during the third round of events involving over 300 citizens: firstly, a national event in Italy with stakeholders and secondly, an international event during the Ars Electronica Festival 2026 in Austria.
