Description

Description

Fairfield, Montana, is facing a severe water shortage due to aging infrastructure and worsening drought. The town's water system loses about half of its water supply because of leaks in pipes installed mostly in 1946. The town council has invested in infrastructure improvements and imposed water use restrictions to mitigate the declining water supply. The town has also attempted to drill new wells, but recent attempts have not found sufficient water. The Greenfields Irrigation District, a century-old network of reservoirs and canals near Fairfield, is also facing water shortages and requires refurbishment and replacement of equipment to improve efficiency and extend the irrigation season.
