Falls City City-Owned Power Plant

The City of Falls City is pursuing a feasibility study for a new city-owned power plant potentially linked to the Mid-America Rail Campus and Nebraska's bio-economy. The project is in early exploration and would not involve wind, solar, or coal technologies. The power plant is expected to serve the Southwest Power Pool regional markets from North Dakota to Texas. The City of Falls City would own the power plant and the underlying land would be locally owned. The project aims to create new revenue streams for Falls City through power generation sales and transmission income. A Community Benefits Agreement has been authorized to ensure local workforce participation, local hiring, local business contracting, community scholarships, and ongoing community engagement.
