Description

Description

The Module aims at enhancing the knowledge and comprehension of EU private international law (EUPIL) topics of students at the Law School, integrating the notions that are offered in the basic course on private international law with seminars and meetings with external experts and scholars. In particular, the Module will be devoted to EUPIL in family and succession matters, an area where the free movement of persons within the EU has created several problems in cross-border cases, that affect the personal life of individuals. Following the entry into force of the Amsterdam Treaty, several EU regulations have provided specific rules to address these problems, that constitute an effective legal framework, aiming at providing legal certainty to EU citizens and residents. Yet, these regulations do not cover all the issues that come in consideration when family or succession disputes arise, making the respective application of the relevant rules rather complicated. Therefore, special attention to these topics is necessary in order to enhance the ability of future lawyers, judges and public notaries to tackle them. The Module will consist of face-to-face lessons and seminars, with judges and practitioners active in this area of the law. Seminars will be open to practitioners. In case of university lockdown for a new COVID-19 outbreak, the activities will be offered via Microsoft Teams and registered.
