Description
Description | The overarching development policy objective of the FC measure is to improve the sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR) of the Nigerien population by preventing unplanned pregnancies and increasing birth intervals, as well as reducing sexually transmitted infections, particularly HIV. The HIV component of the program is aimed at HIV risk groups such as long-distance truck drivers and prostitutes, and for the first time, migrants as part of this project. The FC project is being implemented by the local social marketing agency ANIMAS-SUTURA, which has established itself in recent years as a dynamic and reliable implementing organization for social marketing projects on family planning and HIV prevention and was supported with FC funds. The project measures include the following elements (1) an increased focus of cooperation on young people, especially in primary and secondary schools, (2) a new focus on migrants and host communities, (3) measures to encourage longer school attendance for girls, (4) the expansion of existing interventions to Agadez and Tahoua while continuing activities in existing project regions (Tillabéry and Maradi) and (5) the further institutional and financial consolidation of ANIMAS-SUTURA. This is intended to achieve the FC measure objective of increased use of condoms and modern contraceptives as well as an observable change in the behavior of the target groups with regard to self-determined family planning, HIV-AIDS prevention and child marriage. The target group of the project is primarily the population of reproductive age (15-49 years) with a particular focus on migrants and adolescent girls and schoolgirls. The FC project has a volume of EUR 12.0 million and is to extend over four years from mid-2017 to mid-2021. The new project builds on the ongoing project Family Planning and HIV-AIDS Prevention VI (201468529), which has also been implemented through ANIMAS-SUTURA since 2003, but places it in the new context of combating migration. |
