Construction has started on the first phase of the new Windsor Regional Hospital, known as the Fancsy Family Hospital. The hospital will have 600 beds, including more than 100 additional beds, a new 24-hour emergency department, cancer centre, trauma centre, and more single-patient rooms. The project is divided into three phases: phase one includes a 700-car parking garage and an education and administrative building; phase two will be the diagnostic and treatment block; phase three will be the tower with inpatient rooms. The hospital is named in honor of the late John Thomas Fancsy following a $40 million donation from his estate.
