Fare Collection System Upgrade

Project consists of upgrading the electronic (smart cards) fare collection system on both Metrobus and GoBus (para-transit) services in the City of St. John’s. The scope of the project includes upgrading the software and hardware used for fare collection onboard Metrobus, GoBus, as well as sub-contracted taxi service providers for the para-transit service. The City will own and maintain the hardware and that the software is a one-time purchase. The project aims to address two main ongoing issues; (1) fare collection in taxis, and (2) the ability to offer real time mobile ticketing / pay by phone to both Metrobus and GoBus customers. The project will provide an upgrade that will provide an application that will be used by taxis to validate customers’ smart cards for payment. It will also provide the option of paying fares by smartphone for all Metrobus and GoBus customers.
