Description | The United States Federal Communications Commission (FCC) voted unanimously to block new approvals for telecom devices containing parts from Chinese companies deemed national security risks, such as Huawei and ZTE. The FCC also allowed the agency to bar previously approved equipment in certain cases as part of a broader crackdown on Beijing. The FCC has placed companies including Huawei, ZTE, China Mobile, and China Telecom on a 'Covered List' that bars authorization of new equipment imports or sales from these companies. The FCC is also moving to revoke the authority of Hong Kong telecom carrier HKT to operate in the U.S. due to national security concerns. |
