Description

Description

The Egyptian economy suffers from a shortage of well-trained specialists. At the same time, there is a very high number of young people looking for work. Due to the high population growth, around 1 million young people enter the job market every year, most of whom cannot find employment in the formal sector. A key cause of this imbalance is the inadequate vocational training at public vocational schools. Graduates do not have the skills required in the private sector. This means that around one in three Egyptians under the age of 25 is unemployed. The Egyptian government has recognized the need for a comprehensive transformation in the vocational training sector and has launched the Technical Education 2.0 reform. The project is part of the German-Egyptian training initiative and supports the Egyptian government's vocational training reform. The aim is to improve the employment situation of young adults and at the same time promote the local economy with job-market-relevant, high-quality and practice-oriented vocational training. To this end, the project finances the design, construction, equipment and commissioning of several sectoral competence centers. These are to be developed as a brand and quality seal for the provision of high-quality and practice-oriented training that is geared to the needs of the regional and sectoral labor market, as well as the potential for environmental and resource protection. In particular, a competence center is to make production in the sectors more environmentally friendly and provide students with the skills needed to do so. The tailor-made training enables students to work in an area relevant to the labor market (primarily in the green sector), and companies have the opportunity to actively shape the qualification of their future employees.
