Description

Description

The Feasibility Study for Integrated Community Waste to Energy project is led by the Mount Alexander Sustainability Group (MASG) to build a community waste to energy facility in Castlemaine, Victoria that would turn locally sourced organic waste into renewable energy. The organic waste would be sourced from the local Waste Water Treatment Plant (Coliban Water), Don Smallgoods factory and Mount Alexander Shire Council’s aggregated green waste.Project innovationThe Feasibility Study for Integrated Community Waste to Energy project recognises that whilst anaerobic digester technology is well established for individual waste streams, a unique feature of the MASG project was combining 3 different waste streams (typical of regional communities) into a blended and manageable product. This allows the product to be processed efficiently and reliably, and therefore provide affordable renewable energy to regional communities.BenefitThe study added knowledge on the application of biogas generation and use from a mixed biomass, in this case sewerage, council green waste and organic food/meat residues.Read more about bioenergy and energy from waste.
