In spite of the existence of standards at national level earmarking the principle of equality and the right for everyone to participate in social activities and have access to public services, a gap between norms and reality still exists, and the discriminations towards LGBTI+ are still apparent. At the same time, the current protection framework fails to monitor, prevent and combat hate speech and racism towards LGBTI+. Consequently, racist crimes against LGBTI+ in Greece are under-reported. Overall objectives of this project are to strengthen protection, monitoring and prevention mechanisms through the capacity building of public servants and through the establishment of a network of stakeholders. In particular, project partners will design and implement research-based seminars to public servants holding crucial positions at key services. Seminars’ participants will not only enrich their knowledge on related issues, but they will be able to identify, support and protect victims of hate crimes.Through this process, FAROS’ beneficiaries will be sensitized on LGBTI+ rights.FAROS will also bring together stakeholders and interested parties,which through participatory events will establish a network that will serve as a safety net.The network will sign a Memorandum of Understanding and it will consider to utilize an already existing recording-crimes-against-LGBTI+-platform. Additionally,an e-networking platform will be developed,encouraging further mobilization.Strengthening mutual understanding and multi-actors collaboration will transcend social barriers and reduce crime against LGBTI+. In the framework of the project,capacities of public authorities will be enhanced;access to services and reporting of hate crime will be increased.Efficient monitoring and reporting will eventually lead to policy change and reform. The outcomes of the Greek case-study will draw lessons that can be shared with a wider audience at EU level,as it addresses common challenges and concerns.
