Description

Description

The Federation of Associations for Hunting and Conservation of the EU (FACE) is an international, non-profit making, non-governmental organisation that acts in the interests of 7 million European hunters, since its founding in 1977 (legally registered in 1978). FACE works as an evidence-based organisation to ensure that hunting remains good for hunters, society and nature. In doing so, it provides technical expertise and insight to both the hunting community and policymakers who are at the core of the activities proposed in this project. For the timeframe of this project (2022-2024), FACE’s activities are structured around the two cornerstones of Europe’s nature conservation policy: the EU Birds Directive (including complementary actions and initiatives under UNEP CMS / AEWA), and the EU Habitats Directive with focus on large carnivores. In the context of the European Green Deal, another essential pillar of work is the delivery of the EU Biodiversity Strategy for 2030. FACE has identified key actions in the strategy relevant to its organizational objectives and structured the work plan to support wider policy shaping, engagement and implementation. Again, complementary work under international conventions (CITES, Bern Convention) provides direct added value to EU environmental decision-making is covered to ensure a joint strategic approach for measures outside the EU. By implementing the proposed activities, FACE aims to strengthen the knowledge of hunters and other stakeholders at all levels on relevant EU nature policies in order to facilitate their enhanced and coherent implementation. An example of how FACE achieves this is the FACE Biodiversity Manifesto which is included in the project application. Moreover, FACE intends to facilitate a two-way knowledge exchange between the grassroots levels and EU policymakers, by strengthening networks of experts among FACE Members, in order to contribute to the shaping and implementation of EU nature policies.
