Description | The Fehmarnbelt Tunnel is an 18 km immersed tunnel beneath the Fehmarn Belt strait between the Danish island of Lolland and the German island of Fehmarn. It is a combined road and rail link with two carriageways in each direction and dual railway tracks, forming part of the high-speed rail corridor between Stockholm and Hamburg. The tunnel will be the longest immersed tunnel in the world and aims to shorten journey times, reduce dependence on ferry services, and encourage freight shift from lorries to rail. |
