Description

In May 2012, Consorcio Aeroportos Bahia, a partnership of the Brazilian companies Sinart and UTC Engenharia (a subsidiary of UTC Participacoes), was awarded in a competitive bidding process the contract to expand, rehabilitate, operate and manage the airport located at the city of Feira de Santana (state of Bahia). The airport was named Aeroporto Joao Durval Carneiro. Besides Consorcio Aeroportos Bahia, no other company took part in the contest. The sponsors established the special purpose company Aeroporto Feira de Santana S.A. to lead the project. The 25-year contract was signed with the regulatory agency in May 2013, and the sponsors took over the operations in the same month. The project company committed to transfer 5% of its net revenues to the state government. The total investment in the project was estimated at US$ 21.2 million (BRL 50 million). The population attended by the airport wass estimated at 400 thousand.
