The Second Female Secondary School Assistance Project aims to improve the quality of, and girls access to, secondary education in rural areas of Bangladesh. There are three project components, each of which has several sub-components. The first component improves the quality of secondary education by financing teacher education, training, and support; incentive awards for school performance and improvement; incentive awards for student achievement; and improved school facilities, specifically providing access to safe drinking water and twin latrine facilities. The second component increases access to education and retention of girls in school by supporting stipends and tuition, and an outreach program. The third component strenghens educational management, accountability, and monitoring by bolstering the program management and project operations of the Directorate of Secondary and Higher Education (DSHE), supporting school managmment and accountability, and providing for staff management.
