Description

In 2012, the Peruvian firm Fenix Power Peru announced the construction and operation of the Colbun thermal power plant (ID# 7144), located at Chilca District (570 MW). The thermal power plant was set to have a desalination and purification system, generating 2,000 cubic meters of potable water per day for the population of Las Salinas and Chilca cities. In July 2012, Fenix Power sign an agreement with Lima's district to build the treatment plant and provide the water to the population at no cost. The government agreed to finance the construction of the treatment plant. In 2015, the sponsor signed a water transportation agreement with municipality of Chilca. The network was established to connect the desalination plant with the water distribution system of Las Salinas and Chilca. Commercial operations began in the January 2015. The investment in the desalination and purification system was estimated at US$ 4 million.
