Description

Description

Ferme Agro-Pastorale Jambo SARL (“Ferme Jambo” or “the company”) is an integrated commercial maize farming and milling operation in Lubumbashi, Democratic Republic of Congo (DRC). The company has a land bank of approximately 25,000 hectares (ha) located 5 km from Malambwe town, Kasenga district, Haut Katanga province - approximately 70 km from Lubumbashi. Ferme Jambo started the commercial scale farming operation in 2017, and currently farm approximately 4,000 ha of rainfed maize and soybean from November till May. The farm currently has three storage warehouses, a maintenance facility, and four silos (5,000 tons each) located at the farm site. The maize produced is transported by truck to the company’s mill, located in the industrial zone of Lubumbashi, to be processed into maize flour, with bran and germ as by-products. The maize flour produced is distributed directly to large corporate, industrial buyers and through a network of wholesalers and retailers, including Jambo Mart supermarkets. Ferme Jambo plan to expand and diversify their current operations over a five-year period. The Project will include two phases: Phase 1 (2023-2025) will comprise capital expenditure (CAPEX) and permanent working capital for the (i)  irrigation and farming of 1,500 ha of wheat during the dry season (center pivots, water pumps, tractors, combine harvesters, etc.) and (ii) installation of a 4 tons per hour wheat milling plant; Phase 2 (2026-2027) will comprise CAPEX and permanent working capital for the (iii) irrigation and farming of additional 1,500 ha of wheat during the dry season and (iv) additional 4 tons per hour wheat milling production line. The proposed IFC investment of up to US$20 million will finance the CAPEX requirements for the installation of center pivot irrigation for 3,000 ha out of the existing 4,000 ha to allow a second cropping of wheat during the dry season, as well as additional wheat milling production lines within the company’s existing mill (the “Project”).
