In 2012, the Brazilian company Dix Empreendimentos Ltda, subsidiary of Agemar group, was awarded in a competitive bidding process the contract to build, rehabilitate and operate the airport located at the island of Fernando de Noronha (state of Pernambuco). Information on the other companies that took part in the bidding process and on the bidding criteria set by the regulatory agency was not available. The 10-year contract was signed with the regulatory agency in September 2012, and the sponsor took over the operations of the facilities in October of the same year. The sponsor agreed to pay US$ 2.9 million (BRL 5.6 million) for the concession rights. The project company committed to invest US$ 1.5 million (BRL 3 million) in the project. The airport's capacity was estimated at 75 thousand passengers per year.
