Description
Description | The Ferrograo railway project is a proposed railway through the Amazon rainforest in Brazil. It aims to transport commodities such as corn and soybeans nearly 1,000 kilometers from the city of Sinop on the southern edge of the rainforest to the port of Miritituba on the Tapajos River, a major tributary of the Amazon River. From there, commodities would be ferried to a larger port near Belem for export to China and other trading partners. The project is intended to improve infrastructure for heavy cargo transport and reduce carbon emissions by replacing trucks with trains. However, it faces opposition from Indigenous groups and environmentalists due to concerns about deforestation and environmental impact. |
