Description

Description

This project aims to establish a new hub dedicated to combating disinformation, with a focus on Russian propaganda and anti-Ukraine narratives, while strengthening public resilience and democratic values across Europe. Coordinated by Context Romania, the consortium includes Kyiv Independent, RISE Moldova, Re:Baltica, Expert Forum Romania, APTI and OCCRP as an associated partner. Together, these partners will address disinformation challenges by integrating investigative journalism, advanced AI-powered fact-checking, and targeted media literacy campaigns. The project’s core objective is to create a robust hub that combines innovative AI tools with expert investigative methodologies to detect, analyze, and counter disinformation. This hub will serve as a regional and European resource, enabling scalable, multilingual disinformation tracking and fostering cross-border collaboration. Key activities include producing six cross-border investigations, 24 localized reports, and 220 AI-verified fact-checks, with findings incorporated into EDMO repositories. The project will engage 3,600 participants directly through media literacy workshops in Romania, Moldova, Ukraine, and the Baltics, along with two large-scale EU-wide campaigns. Additionally, a comprehensive communication strategy will amplify the reach and impact of project outputs. OCCRP will enhance the hub’s capacity by providing fact-checking training, sharing investigative expertise, and supporting the development of rigorous methodologies. The project will also monitor online platform compliance with the Digital Services Act (DSA), ensuring accountability and publishing actionable policy reports. By establishing this hub and implementing these activities, the project not only tackles immediate disinformation threats but also creates a sustainable framework for empowering citizens, strengthening institutional responses, and fostering regional cooperation to safeguard democratic values in Europe.
