Vertical Entertainment Kft. the number four theatrical distributor in the Hungarian market, and the first among independent distributors, the three companies bigger than us all have two major studio licences, while we don’t have any. We only deal with theatrical releases, mainly American movies. We distribute around 18-20 films a year, but as we only have rights for 1 year, we don’t really have a catalogue. Our films are mainly American and mainstream and we also distribute 3-4 European non-national per year. We don’t make any film financing. The costs in our application are solely Release costs (P&A costs). The Advertising and promotion costs cover all marketing activities related to the release of a film. The optical costs cover all aspects of the production part (dubbing, translation, master DCPs, DCP duplication, KDMs, trailering, transportation, censorship, etc.). The COVID-19 Pandemic has had an impact on nearly all aspects of our lives, and the film industry is no exception. Movie theaters are by nature a high-risk environment, as they often pack hundreds of people into a small space together for extended periods of time. The COVID-19 pandemic is not likely to go away anytime soon, and has forced most people to make dramatic, long-term changes to their lives. It’s cost the film industry a lot of money, and likely changed the way we watch new movies forever. As the pandemic eases, we continue to find that most film-goers are wary, as evidenced by the dramatic decline in BO data (50% drop). With the help of our marketing campaigns, the willingness to visit the cinema must also be strengthened in people. This work can be greatly aided by support with CREA-MEDIA-2022-FILMDISTRIBUTION grant. We also hope that with this grant, we can bring as many European films - supporting the European film industry - as possible to the audience in Hungary.
