"CINEMIEN is an independent, all-rights film distributor that has been combining professionalism with a love for films and a good intuition for new talent for over 40 years in the Netherlands, Belgium, Luxembourg. In 2020 CINEMIEN expanded to Germany, Austria, Switzerland where it joined forces with one of Europe’s leading distributors in the special interest section (queer films) PRO-FUN MEDIA GmbH to form PRO-FUN MEDIA's new theatrical distribution sector under the brand name CINEMIEN Deutschland. Like this CINEMIEN Deutschland is now able to draw from more than 70 years of combined experience in Europe’s film and cinema landscape. CINEMIEN was founded during the emancipation wave in the eighties. The company name is derived from the 70s feminist group ‘Dolle Mina’, and the word ‘cinema’. The company’s roots reflect its core beliefs and business, even to this very, forty years after its establishment. CINEMIEN acquires and distributes titles containing, and created by, strong female leads as well as titles for and by the LGBTQ community and other minority groups. CINEMIEN Deutschland buys films at the important international film festivals (such as Cannes and Berlinale) and the quality of films is paramount in its acquisition strategy. CINEMIEN supervises the full life cycle of a film after acquisition (in its respective territories) starting from theatrical release over DVD/Blu-Ray and Video on Demand releases and ending with TV exploitation. In Germany, Austria and Switzerland, CINEMIEN Deutschland started its program with Xavier Dolan's CANNES competition entry ""Matthias & Maxime"" and the Berlinale Special Gala film ""Charlatan"" by OSCAR® Nominee Agnieszka Holland and followed with Xavier Giannolis award winning ""Illusions perdues"" one of the bestselling films in France of 2021/2022."
