Description

Description

FILMFEST DRESDEN – International Short Film Festival is set to take place in April 2026 and 2027. Over six days, the festival will showcase between 300 and 350 productions from around 70 countries, with a particular focus on European and low-capacity countries. These selections, drawn from approximately 3,400 submissions, are complemented by an extensive array of special programmes. Highlights include thematic retrospectives, tributes, children’s and youth films, and country-specific spotlights. Each year, FILMFEST DRESDEN also spotlights a central topic as part of its structure. Following the launch of a three-year focus on generational change in 2025, the festival will examine the themes of work in 2026 and health in 2027, exploring these issues from multiple perspectives. Recognised as a key hub in the short film industry, FILMFEST DRESDEN offers a range of high-quality educational and networking opportunities. These include masterclasses, workshops, panel discussions, exhibitions, and receptions aimed at over 600 accredited industry professionals and emerging talents. Overall, the festival itself reaches an audience between 15,000 and 18,000 each year. Year-round satellite events engage an additional 15,000 attendees annually. One of the festival’s primary objectives is to preserve and enhance both social and geographic diversity within its programming. By showcasing a broad spectrum of European short films, FILMFEST DRESDEN not only raises awareness of the art form but also introduces younger audiences to cinema through advanced media literacy initiatives. The festival remains dedicated to accessible programming for people with different disabilities and continues to use digital technologies to expand the reach of European short film beyond traditional festival settings, engaging new audiences in the process.
