filmfriend: Growing Audience for European Films

2026-07-22

filmfriend is a pioneering pan-European streaming platform dedicated to libraries, currently serving 1,500 libraries across 10 countries. Our project aims to enhance audience development by promoting European Heritage films, engaging young audiences, facilitating public screenings, and reaching new user groups such as schools and hospitals. We will create curated collections and a dedicated page for European Heritage films, making them accessible and appealing to viewers across multiple countries. Our initiatives for children and teenagers include tailored film programs, voice-overs in multiple languages, and digital campaigns to foster a lifelong appreciation for European cinema. Public screenings will be organized around special events, supported by curated programs and communication materials, making them more attractive and accessible to libraries. This will increase visibility and engagement, reinforcing the community feeling around libraries and promoting European films. Additionally, we will adapt our platform to meet the needs of schools and hospitals, providing a curated offer of European films that supports educational and entertainment purposes. Leveraging our strong position and economies of scale, we ensure efficient use of resources and maximize impact. By expanding into new territories and collaborating with various film institutions and festivals, we aim to create a vibrant, interconnected European film community. This initiative will not only increase the visibility and viewership of European films but also foster a sense of European unity and cultural appreciation. Support for this project will enable us to continue our mission of cultural democratization, making quality European cinema accessible to diverse audiences and strengthening the European audiovisual industry.
